America was founded on the concept that free people with diverse beliefs can govern themselves in peace, advance individual freedoms, safe guard its people, forge powerful alliances, and command world respect.

Democrats believe that government plays a central role in upholding these precepts and that government leaders have the responsibility to support public policy issues which protect the well-being and common good of all citizens--not just the very wealthy and large corporations.

Democrats hold that diversity in America is a source of strength with equal responsibilities, benefits and protection. Our lives and communities are made stronger by faith, and the justice and mercy that faith inspires. Democrats will always protect every American's freedom to believe and worship as he or she chooses.

For a democracy to survive, its citizens cannot let someone else determine their collective future; therefore, Democrats believe voting is just half the equation in a working and viable democracy. The other half is people taking responsibility for developing an informed political voice on critical issues and community concerns that enable elected leadership to respond and take political action. Being part of a county political party is an effective way to bring power to your individual voice.

A county party is where grass-roots political action, leadership development and party resolutions are developed and promoted. County parties are the building blocks for the state and national Democratic Committees. The mission for the Vilas County Democratic Party is to build membership and to help elect public officials who promote the platform and core values of the Democratic Party.

Being part of the Wisconsin political party, Vilas County Democrats are committed to identifying public policy issues of importance, informing the public and generating discussion by holding social and informational activities, open membership meetings, and providing "Meet the Candidates" events for our fellow democrats and general public. In addition, Vilas County Democrats research issues and support resolutions for the "common good" of our communities such as Single-Payer Health Care, preserving Social Security, funding quality public school education, growing the economy, advancing social, civic and legal justice, upholding the separation of church and state, and protecting our environment , and recognizing our responsibilities as citizens of the world.
