History and Accomplishments of the Democratic Party The Foundation of the Democratic Party of Vilas County Democrats are on your side when it comes to our most cherished values: Freedom *** Family *** Fairness Who We Are As the local grassroots organization, we are the eyes and ears for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. We agree on a lot of things, and we may disagree on a few. But, together, we are dedicated to working to fulfill our Democratic beliefs. What We Do We educate and inform each other and our communities. We write letters to the editor and press releases. We raise awareness of and money for candidates in elections. We hand out literature, make phone calls, and help people register to vote so that everyone has an opportunity to express their opinions through the ballot box at all elections. Finally, we strive to build a community where people can come together to share ideas and friendship. Why We Do It As your friends and neighbors, we believe we can bring a better quality of life to all of us through our politiical actions. What Democrats Believe America was founded on the concept that free people with diverse beliefs can govern themselves in peace, advance individual freedoms, safeguard themselves, forge powerful alliances, and command world respect. Democrats believe that government plays a central role in upholding those precepts. We believe government leaders have the responsibility to support public policy issues which protect the well-being and common good of all citizens, not just the very wealthy and large corporations. Democrats hold that diversity in America is a source of strength. Democrats will always protect every American's freedom to believe and worship as he or she chooses. For a democracy to survive, its citizens cannot let someone else determine their collective future. Voting is just part of the equation in a working and viable democracy. Democrats believe that citizens are responsible for developing an informed political voice on critical issues and community concerns. This enables our elected leadership to respond and take political action. Being part of a county political party is the most effective way to bring power to your individual voice.
